But more sorted

I got given some blackcurrant plants well sticks the other week,so I decided so better  crack on and plant them. So
I decided to plant them in the old raspberry bed. So I scraped all the bark from the bed and laid down some carpet tiles, then put the bark on top of the tiles so it tidies it up a bit.   Then planted the blackcurrant's along the edge of the the bed,so let's see if these grow better than  the raspberries.

I also emptied the greenhouse of all of the dead plants and gave it a tidy up, last few years I've used pots and buckets to grow veg in the greenhouse. Next year I'm hoping to use the soil in the ploy tunnel and greenhouse to grow in,so with the greenhouse empty I gave the soils a dig over. I slung in some compost /lead mould/manure to improve the soil a little,it's not looking that bad at the moment so will see how it works out next year. Just have to sort the poly tunnel out when I can,  so I can do the same and use the soil.

Even more seeds

I've got carried away again and ordered more seeds,I've even got some garlic to plant this week. www.vegetableseeds.net

Back to little by little

Now that I'm back at work it's harder to try and get to the plot after work, think I'll make it once this week and some time
Over the weekend. At the weekend i finished some more weeding and got rid of some rotten veg, so I'm about 90% weed free well sort of anyway. I did weed the section I planted some rhubarb in the other year, all I ever do is weed it let it grow then weeded it again. So I weeded what I can and covered the rest in carpet tiles,I will uncover it once I know what I'm going to do with it. The rhubarb is still planted in that section apart from one plant I dug out,it was getting stress I was told with it growing longer shoots to get away from all the weeds. I had a slight accident while digging the rhubarb up,I snapped my spade that I have had for years so will have to try and mend it with a new shaft.

It doesn't take long for the slugs to start to eat any veg that's left,I had some small  marrows growing and on Tuesday all ok but Thursday the buggers had moved in.

While weeding we normally find small bones and the odd tooth,I thought I'd found a finger but it was a root.

Another week done and dusted.

Well that's another week done and this time I've been to the allotment,I've not been everyday but been more than once. I got a bit done so quite chuffed and even chatted for a bit, still a bit to do but can start to relax a little and start to plan next year. Nearly all of the veg is up now just my sprouts /swedes /cabbages left to pick, just picked the last marrows up and will use when needed or just give away.

Over the last few years I haven't done well on raspberries well the ones I've bought,so I've been given some and have been planted at the bottom of the plot. I have now been given some more so I've planted them as well, think I've planted about 10 I think. I put them near the old ones so I hope these grow,I weeded the section and moved all the bark from the sides. I moved all the bark to the bottom of the bed then put some carpet tiles down, once the tiles had been put down I put the bark back on top of them just to tidy it up and compress the weeds

We have a path inside the polytunnel now so just have to did the soil over on one side, once it's done it will save me a few pence next year so I don't have to buy compost.

Rusty bin

I got given a rusty bin a while ago and thought I'd use it for planting in or a feature on the plot, anyway Keith on the plot next to me was having a tidy up and cutting all the dead flowers back. He has a big New Zealand Flax growing on his plot, well he did have one till he cut it all back. So he chopped it down and dug it up to make it  smaller and move,so with him digging it up he gave me some cuttings so I'm going to plant in that rusty bin and a smaller bin. The other half said to me can you make the bin look rustic, the bin is rusty and has holes in what more do you want.

That's another week gone

Thats another week done and dusted and done bugger all again,it's the same thing babysit the dogs while everyone is at work. That's the problem me starting work early I finish early,so everyone is still at work. So the only chance i had to go to the plot was Saturday and Sunday, couldn't do all day but did a bit. On Saturday we met at the plot at 8:30 to get a lift to get some manure,so 3 of us travelled down and shifted some shit. We only had chance to get one trailer load this time,so will have to go back and get some more. The first load went straight into Keith's holdings,do the next will be all mine Mwhahahhahaha.

picked a little veg after we had moved all of the manure,I only kept some of the beetroot so I could pickle it. The rest I gave away to the inlaws. Thought I do my  little bit and help out,I also have them a demijohn of Elderberry wine to help out. But it looks like they have a shed full of wine anyway bugger, anyway the wine I made is fresh wine not shop bought wine.

managed to pickle a bit of the beetroot and got 4 jars of it,I still have a bit to pick so will do it once I've got some spare jars. I would make some wine out of it but don't know what it tastes like,no point making it if I don't like it. The wine will be ready in  few months so can decide then, well that's if I can wait that long to drink it.

Making space

Not had much time to visit the plot last week mainly due to babysitting the dogs, also the weather hasn't been that good. So I manages to visit the plot Saturday pm and Sunday pm,it was just a few hours each day so had not much time to chat. We had a skip delivered on site for fri/sat/sun so I managed to get rid of most of the rubbish that was building up,it's surprising how much rubbish I had hiding around the plot. Also I moved all my manure to the smaller compost bins, just because we will be getting some fresh muck so didn't want it mixing.
